The Life and Suffering of Prince Jerian

The Life and Suffering of Prince Jerian

Log

The life and suffering of Prince Jerian is an interesting contrast to Sir Brante, in Sir Brante, most questions are personal, they ask you about how you live, what you prioritize and about your general ethos to life, in Prince Jerian the scale is larger and much less personal, it’s about what you believe in as a whole, but not necessarily limited to yourself and how you deal with the world. It still remains at it’s core a visual novel of self-reflection, of mirroring yourself in your choices, but with a different priority for it’s subject.

That is part of what makes it so interesting to me, everyone you meet, from the beginning of your life is a political player, trying to raise you into their own pawn while still being a person with desires themselves, it’s where the stats also differ from Brante, you have to grasp with alien concepts that are dearly important to it’s work, hell, in Brante you have lesser deaths as a resource for outrageous options, so you can pick options that far exceed the others at a cost, as if you were saying you don’t want to sacrifice this, so you sacrifice yourself instead, but in prince Jerian, you have instead “Sanity”, and it’s role? It’s not so you can pick an exceptional option, but literally to allow and give you four chances to betray yourself through your own playthrough, it’s probably one of the more interesting directions they could take for a game that is all about self-reflection, with it you can pick a choice you had generally not built yourself for, a person of strong will, wishes to betray themselves and pick a choice that prioritizes their blood? Price of sanity, and so forth.

Aleister Crowley once said that our life is our “great work”, you could say Sir Brante is a game about defining that great work by one own’s self, while in Prince Jerian, that is defined by the state of the empire.

In sir Brante, the gods find themselves in you. In prince Jerian, you are their agent, preaching of your own divinity.
